Koita Centre for Digital Health (KCDH) at IIT Bombay is the first of its kind in India, focused on driving academic programs, research, and industry collaborations in Digital Health.

IIT Bombay is the no. 1 Institute in India for innovation and is known as the premier institute for engineering education, research and entrepreneurship. IIT Bombay has a campus of 530 acres, located at the shores of Powai lake in Mumbai, the financial capital of India. KCDH has deep technical and research cross-functional expertise in the areas such as computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, AI/ machine learning, and medical science which is needed to build excellence in Digital Health and Health Informatics. The centre has developed a strong link with leading hospitals, research organizations, and academic organizations which have strong capabilities in different branches of medicine and healthcare. The centre is creating opportunities for engineering, clinical professionals, and entrepreneurs in Digital health and creating research and employment opportunities in this domain in India.

KCDH provides seed grants, access to multidisciplinary research peer teams, research infrastructure, corporate and clinical partnerships, a global advisory board, and the brightest talent pool. Good facilities also exist for computing. Well equipped labs related to digital health i.e. Medical Imaging lab, Medical Devices lab, Consumer Health lab etc. will be made available. The Institute has a well-stocked library with close to 300,000 books and electronic subscriptions to all leading journals. The faculty members and postdoctoral fellows associated with us will have access to all the research facilities available at IIT Bombay.

A technology business incubator hosted by the Institute, called the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), (www.sineiitb.org) serves to promote technology-based entrepreneurship by faculty. A research park also helps in translational research opportunities.

Faculty Positions
Full Professor

Qualification: Ph. D. with first class or equivalent (in terms of Grades, etc.) at the preceding degree and excellent academic record throughout. Research during/after Ph.D. leading to publications in reputed journals and other reputed venues, satisfying academic-unit specific eligibility criteria.

A minimum of 10 years post-Ph.D. teaching/research/professional experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIMs or at an equivalent level in any other Indian/Foreign Universities/ Institutions of comparable level. The candidate should have demonstrated leadership in research in a specific area, with an excellent record of publications in reputed journals and conferences and should have graduated Ph.D. student(s).

Candidates should also have demonstrated excellent teaching abilities at higher educational institutions. It is desirable that the candidate has carried out laboratory development/course development/ technology development/ innovative work leading to patents and has generated sufficient funding for research. It is also desirable that the candidate has external recognition in the area of specialization.

The teaching and Ph.D. guidance requirements may be relaxed for candidates from research labs who have an exceptional research record.

Specialisation needed: Healthcare / Medicine / Bio-engineering / Public Health / Health Policy/ Health Economics is driven by digital / information / communication technologies such as bioinformatics, biostatistics, medical imaging, sensors, AI/ML, IoT, etc bio-signal processing.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Publications criteria (overall and Assessment Period) Candidates should have in total a minimum of 15 publications in reputed journals or peer reviewed conferences.
  • Candidates should also have a minimum of 6 publications in reputed journals or peer reviewed conferences during their assessment period.
    KCDH Criteria: Reputed Journals or Conference Proceedings with inclusion in Scopus/SCI index, Math-SCI, SciMajor index, Core Ranking (B or higher), ABDC list (for economics, statistics), medical journals with high impact factor.
    • Reputed conference proceedings at par with reputed journals .
    • Every granted patent in the Healthcare or Bio domain can be counted as equivalent to 2 publications. Every other granted patent will be counted as a single publication.
    • Every filed patent can be counted as equivalent to ½ a publication.
    • Avoid double counting of patents and publications.
  • Masters Project guidance:
    Candidates should have guided at least 6 Master’s students during the assessment period.
  • Ph.D. guidance:
    Candidates should be the supervisor/ co-supervisor of at least 2 Ph.D. student, who has either graduated or is in an advanced stage. Advanced stage is when the student has completed pre-synopsis or has at least 1 publications produced from the doctoral work. The criteria of Ph.D. guidance of students may be relaxed for candidates with excellent research records, if they are from industry/research labs/non Ph.D. granting academic institutions.
  • Projects/Research Grants [department option]:
    At least one project/ Research grant at the level of Associate professor
  • Teaching scores:
    Candidates should have a minimum of 60% median teaching evaluation score for courses taught in the assessment period. Candidates should have taught at least an average of 12 courses credits per year during the assessment period, excluding periods of long leaves.
  • Any other eligibility criteria
    1. Candidates applying within one year after satisfying the minimum experience criteria in the preceding post must have an outstanding research record as judged by the number of publications being substantially above the average of the relevant group/department, and as judged by the quality of publications measured by factors such as citations, publications in topranked venues, or industrial impact.
    2. Involvement in service activities such as administrative responsibilities as assigned by academic units/institute and participation in institute level activities (e.g. GATE/JAM/JEE related operations).
    3. Externally visible R&D related activities such as peer-review processes, members of national and/or international committees of importance, associate editorship/ editorship of national and international journals of repute.
    4. Contribution to outreach activities such as CEP courses, conducting workshops, conferences, activities of professional organizations, consultancy projects, etc.

Associate Professor

A minimum of 6 years post-Ph.D. teaching/research/professional experience of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor Grade I in IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIMs or at an equivalent level in any other Indian/Foreign Universities/ Institutions/Industries of comparable level.

The candidate should have demonstrated research ability with an excellent record of publications in reputed journals and conferences and supervision of Ph.D. student(s). Candidates should also have demonstrated excellent teaching abilities at higher educational institutions.

Role 1: Assistant Professor Grade I

Qualification: Ph.D. with First class or equivalent (in terms of grades) at the preceding degree, and a good academic record throughout. Research during/after Ph.D. leading to publications in reputed journals and other reputed venues, satisfying academic-unit specific eligibility criteria.

A minimum of three years post Ph.D. teaching/research/professional experience, excluding the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D. The candidate should have demonstrated research capabilities in terms of publications in reputed journals and conferences.

Specialisation needed: Healthcare / Medicine / Bio-engineering / Public Health / Health Policy / Health Economics is driven by digital / information / communication technologies such as bioinformatics, biostatistics, medical imaging, sensors, AI/ML, IoT, etc bio-signal processing.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 3 publications in reputed journals or conference proceedings. (Criteria for Reputed Journals or Conference Proceedings: Inclusion in Scopus/SCI index, Math-SCI, SciMajor index, Core Ranking (B or higher), ABDC list (for economics, statistics), medical journals with high impact factor.)
  • Candidates should have on average 1 publication per year of post Ph.D. experience in addition to the above minimum specified; Papers published during/based on Ph.D. work can also be counted towards this number.
  • Up to 5 years of work in a healthcare organization or hospital or industry that do not offer scope for publication may be exempted from the additional (post-PhD) publication requirements.
  • Granted patents of exceptional quality in the Healthcare or Bio domain can be counted as equivalent to 2 publications. Every other granted patent will be counted as a single publication. Work that is repeated across patents and publications will not be doubly counted.
Role 2 : Assistant Professor Grade II

Candidates satisfying all criteria other than experience criteria for Assistant Professor Grade I may be appointed as Assistant Professor Grade-II with appropriate pay based on post-doctoral experience. After satisfying the experience criteria for Assistant Professor Grade 1, they will be moved to Assistant Professor Grade I in Academic Level 12.

Recruitment for Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow (IPDF) position:
Qualification:
  • Candidates may be PhDs who have just graduated/ with less than 2 years of experience or research scholars who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting examination.
  • The candidates should be preferably below 32 years of age.
  • The candidates should be capable of conducting research in the areas relevant to the KCDH. The candidate must have a minimum of 2 papers from their Ph.D. in reputed journals or conference proceedings.
  • IIT Bombay's own Ph.D. students are not eligible for this position.

Additional information:
These selected candidates will be initially offered an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow (IPDF) position for a period of one year. Further extension is possible, based on the successful yearly progress report and seminar, evaluated by a departmental post-doctoral committee.
